WHO IS S2S

SHANA BA SHANA

SHOULDER TO SHOULDER

Shana Ba Shana, is an Afghan concept of standing “Shoulder To Shoulder” with someone and is a shared sentiment with Afghan Allies who served alongside U.S. Forces. The ideology of Shana Be Shana (S2S) reflects our mission to protect those who have a shared value in freedom, democracy, and human rights.

Our operations, strategy, and logistics teams come from a variety of backgrounds, both military and civilian. With volunteers distributed across seven different countries, some working full-time in combat and crisis zones, we are united by our shared values in helping those in need.

TAKE ACTION TODAY.

WE ARE VETERANS AND CIVILIANS WHO ARE DEDICATED TO HELPING THOSE DISPLACED BY CONFLICT.

Dominic “Rondo” Rondinelli

S2S Project, Founder and Chairman

Being a soldier means many things. For Dominic, it is about performing your job well, taking care of others, and getting home safely. Displaying the Army’s core values of endless loyalty, duty, honor, and integrity has been a career-long priority. As a soldier, your daily focus is on accomplishing your purpose, protecting your men and women, and the care of your equipment. Like many of us, understanding & empathizing with the human condition plays a significant role too. Having compassion for others, at least for Dominic, was an inescapable fact that guided his career.

  • Knowing that you are dedicating yourself matters in the big picture...that your contribution to humanity counted. That’s why Dominic uses his 27 years of military operational experience to continue to offer up his time, energy, experience, and connections to help support people that he encountered firsthand who are desperate for basic needs like water, food, shelter, and security.

“I served in Afghanistan with an Afghan Uniform Police (AUP) officer. We worked together daily for months during a time when “blue on green” attacks were frequent (Afghan service members attacking US Forces). This AUP officer gave me his word that we would not be harmed on his watch. He swore an oath to protect us and never let harm come to me or my team. Over the months of working, patrolling, and fighting together, we developed an unbreakable bond of love, friendship, and brotherhood. We established common goals to build a safer Afghanistan for this AUP Officer, his family, and all other Afghans in the region. In August 2021, I received an email from this AUP Officer asking to help him and his family escape Afghanistan. Without hesitation, I contacted current and former service members and government agencies for assistance. Within 12 hours they were out of the country and off to a safe location. This effort served as a catalyst to helping other Afghans that we served with and thousands of others who reached out to us for help. We gave our word to help. S2S Project was born of this friendship and extraction to safety.”

“There is something special about serving overseas. You learn about other cultures and areas of the world. You realize that people aren’t much different regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, or background. We all value family and friends, understand the importance of the safety of our local communities, and treat everyone with dignity and respect. By happenstance, you cannot help but develop a special bond and friendship with those you work with and see every day. Thus, when someone asks me for help, by God, I am going to do everything within my power to help them. We have the means to assist hundreds of thousands of people in trouble. By helping S2S Project, you are helping families relocate to a safe area and begin a fresh start as a family. These families will improve the communities they are relocated to, which in turn helps make our world a better place with better people…because good people help good people. It's enthusiastic and it's contagious. Don’t ever forget where you come from and that someone helped you along the way.”

Dominic has 27 years of military experience specializing in operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Dominic served in four separate combat zones on multiple occasions in the Balkans, the Middle East, and Africa. Rondo specializes in developing teams and building enduring relationships. He has leveraged his experience in Afghanistan and international relationships to forge private efforts through the S2S Project. Rondo is comfortable in crisis action planning in high-risk environments.
